The birth of the republic
The Republic of San Marino, a small independent state situated on the Adriatic Sea, according to tradition was founded by a stonemason named Marino who was entrusted with the task of restoring the walls of the fortress.
Marino with a friend named Leo, belonged to the Christian religion and to escape the persecution of the emperor took refuge on Mount Titano.
Our friend Leo, however, he found refuge on Mount Feretrio, giving life to the city of
San Leo.
Places to visit
The main places to visit in the Republic of San Marino are the Government Palace, the Basilica, the Church of San Francesco with attached Pinacoteca Museum, the Church of St. Quirinus or Cappuccini,
the Sammarinese Craft Show, the three beautiful forts on the edge of Mount Titano, connected still today to the citadel, through walls and trenches, the Castello di Acquaviva with its numerous shops of artisans,
the castle of Serravalle and Borgo Maggiore connected to the center with a picturesque cable car.
It will also be able to visit several private museums such as the Maranello Rosso Collection, the Museum of Modern Weapons, the Museum of Vehicles, the Wax Museum, the Museum of the Reptilarium-Curiositàe Aquarium.
